Global Business is a weekly programme about worldwide business from the BBC World Service.Much of what Global Business reports on is technology colliding with the conventional way of doing things; it's the business story of our times, often an uncomfortable one.

The Global Business presenter Peter Day has been described by the influential American new media commentator Jeff Jarvis (in his blog BuzzMachine) as "the best reporter on radio". Day says Global Business tries to attract the attention of listeners who didn't think they were interested in business..until they heard the first two minutes of the programme.

CNBC, the leading business and financial news broadcaster, and Allianz, one of the leading integrated financial services providers worldwide, have partnered around a competition that aims to identify entrepreneurs across Europe with environmentally responsible business concepts.

The competition kicks off on 8 June 2009 and the individual named “The Good Entrepreneur of 2009” will receive a prize package worth more than €250,000 and includes exposure on CNBC and business support from Allianz.

Anyone who is based in Europe can enter through the website www.goodentrepreneur.com from 8 June. You’ll be asked fill out an application form and submit a 60 second video pitching your idea. The video doesn’t have to be fancy - you could film it on your mobile phone - it’s the idea that counts. Applications close on 31 July 2009, and the three finalists will be announced in August 2009.

The finalists will then be filmed to feature in a four-part televised series on CNBC, documenting the progress of each person. In the series finale, a panel of high profile judges will reveal the winner of the competition. The series will be broadcast across Europe, the Middle East and Africa and in Asia during the autumn of 2009.

The competition has been created in a partnership between CNBC and Allianz, one of the leading integrated financial services providers worldwide, who will also provide business support as part of the prize to the winning entrepreneur. Click here for more information
