'Breakthrough Technology for Future Wireless Telecommunications'
Cambridge University Technology and Enterprise Club (CUTEC) was delighted to present an opportunity to hear Tim Haynes and Stephen Lowery discuss how entrepreneurs acquire and benefit from venture capital. Tim is the CEO and founder of Nujira, a start-up company developing an innovative technology for wireless telecommunications. Stephen is the director at 3i, a leading world venture capital and private equity firm, which co-led a round worth $10 million in venture funds recently invested into Nujira technology. The event provided an insightful talk given by both a leading entrepreneur and investor. Over 100 people attended the event, showing what a great success it was.

The Spotlight Seminar

'From Small Beginnings to a $65 Million Sale - and the Bits in Between: The DNA Research Innovation Story'
The seminar was held on February 15, 2005. This event, held in collaboration with Biology in Business, saw Dr Simon Douglas, CEO of DNA Research Innovations (DRI), and Dr Robert James, Director Prelude Ventures, presenting their experiences of DRI, from start-up creation, through company growth to eventual trade sale, from the perspectives of the founding entrepreneur and the investing venture capitalist. 'What`s Hot and What`s Not: Critical success factors in hi-tech entrepreneurship'
Ken Morse, inspirational entrepreneur and Managing Director of the MIT Entrepreneurship Center and renowned serial entrepreneur explained the key success factors that differentiate high-performance start-ups from the rest. Drawing from his own experiences as co-founder of 3COM, AspenTech, and his more recent involvement in numerous early stage companies, Ken talked about the vital importance of serving the customer rather than the technology. Ken addressed how to gauge and respond to customer’s needs, how to manage change successfully in the fast-moving world of high-tech and, most importantly, how to ensure that your company attracts and retains premier customers.
