Global Health Hack Day

As part of this year’s Cambridge Science Festival, the Humanitarian Centre, Idea Transform and the Cambridge University Technology and Enterprise Club (CUTEC) have joined forces to run the Global Health Hack Day.

CUTEC’s TVC diary

Here comes the turn of our Marketing team to invite you behind the scene of our Technology Ventures Conference (TVC). What have been their main challenges in lining up this large conference over the recent weeks? Which fundamental role have they played in one of our milestone: “the start of the TVC’s sales”?

The forthcoming paragraphs will cover these burning questions and broaden your understanding on one of our front line team’s goal and organisation.

Being a part of the marketing team is an exciting but tough role. Marketing can be nice and gentle when you only need to follow some certain rules to achieve the goal; or marketing can be quite challenging when the targets to hit are doubled and the end results should be much higher than the set expectations. However, we have been really lucky as our marketing team consists of the best possible folks of different backgrounds that the world can find who by thinking alike enjoy being challenged in order to get inspired for fantastic achievements.

In a nutshell, in the last couple of months we have put our heads together to carefully assess our goals and consider the steps to implement them. We have evaluated the target audience and contacted the best marketing people to receive a professional feedback to understand if we were moving in the right direction. As a result we have produced a detailed marketing plan for the TVC 2012 with each action point analysed and highlighted, integrated the sales and social media strategy into the plan and get the tickets sales ready. A lot has been done but we have much more to go as the TVC 2012 days are counting down and the expectation level is only stepping up.

We are always looking for new motivated individuals to join our organisation. interested in taking on a new challenge, please visit: http://cutec.org/join-us/

Likewise, drop us an email if you would like to get involved as a CUTEC sponsor or participate to the TVC Technology Showcase or the Diamond Exhibition (sponsorship@cutec.org).

Created in partnership with the University of Cambridge’s Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning (CfEL), Idea Transform aims to help those developing innovative ideas turn them into sustainable businesses through a programme that combines events, mentoring and targeted support.

A weekend (20-22 April) to change the world, the Idea Transform event will team up people with ideas and those with business, marketing and technical skills to work together intensely over the weekend in order to develop meaningful and innovative projects. Open to all, attendees will benefit from a combination of hands-on, experienced mentors and inspiring keynote speakers to provide the perfect environment to learn, advance their ideas, network with like-minded individuals and enjoy themselves. At the end of the weekend an international judging panel will select those projects that show the most promise and Idea Transform will then work closely with them to provide on going mentoring and support. Tickets can be purchased at www.ideatransform.org

“Idea Transform is dedicated to supporting innovation and entrepreneurship that can make a difference to people’s lives, creating sustainable businesses that enable change,” said Mauro Ciaccio, co-founder, Idea Transform. “Partnering with the Humanitarian Centre and CUTEC is the perfect fit for our goals. Start-up Master Class March 2012

Monday 26th March, 5:45pm – 9pm. Registration 5:45 – 6:15pm
Location: Room LT3, Judge Business School, Trumpington Street, Cambridge

Speakers:
• Eric Swain – Gather & Throw
• Rob Chant – Cambridge Web Marketing Co.

This event is organised in association with Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning.
The importance of social media and online marketing has become critical to the success of businesses that are built on innovation and/or technology. The ability to validate ideas, gather user feedback, reach potential customers – within very short timescales and with reduced budgets – means that the role of social media cannot be ignored.

In addition, startups also have natural advantages of versus larger established companies, (things like flexibility, scale, lack of historical bureaucracy, etc) which can be enhanced by using social media.
At the same time the need for your business to be found through search, and search engine optimisation is the way to do that. SEO ties in with almost every aspect of your web presence, including your social channels. So, how do you manage and optimise this complex process? And how do you verify that your efforts in online & social media are paying off?

As usual, there will also be plenty of time for Q&A so please bring your own burning questions to put to our speaker. Join us before the event from 5:45pm for nibbles and refreshments. Then stay around after the talk for more networking until 9:00pm.

“Women in Entrepreneurship” : CUTEC representative of the trend! – Entrepreneur Country online magazine

The presence of women in business and notably in entrepreneurship is growing at fast pace as demonstrated by a recent CUTEC article published in the Entrepreneur Country online magazine.

Surely nothing more relevant than our club to represent such trend!

“Since its inception in 2003, the Executive Committee has been male-dominated, and led by male Presidents until 2010 when Vivian Chen became its first female President. Since her election to the role, the number of women joining CUTEC has increased dramatically – could it be that women hunt in packs, or perhaps show greater empathy towards their female co-workers, thus encouraging others to join when they are in position of leadership?”

To read more and get inspired please visit: http://content.yudu.com/Library/A1vt63/EntrepreneurCountr…

With congratulations to Alessandra Caggiano (VP Sponsorhsip), Ivan Mazour (VP External Relations), Marta Lapsley (VP Content) and Liz Williams (President) for reaching such exposure with this fascinating article!

Highlight on CamJelly this month!

What’s this “Jelly” thing all about then?

Jelly is a casual coworking event, where freelancers, home workers, contractors and small business owners meet in order to get out of their normal space, meet some new people and work together in a social environment. Jelly is a mixture of work, chat, comparing of ideas, passing on tips and help and maybe sometimes collaboration on the birth of a new project. Jelly is not an out & out networking event, if you want to sit with your headphones in and pound away at the keyboard… that’s just fine.

Dates | Time | Venue

CamJelly is held weekly at ideaSpace between 1pm & 4pm on Friday afternoons. From around 4pm to 5pm ideaSpace will be sponsoring some cold beers to share a cold one on the terrace overlooking the rolling (well flat actually) Cambridgeshire countryside. So after a long week working in the bedroom, Starbucks or your garden shed when not join us for some coworking and a cold one? The venue is ideaSpace . When you get there please check in with reception and tell them you are there for CamJelly at ideaSpace. You will be directed upstairs to ideaSpace (2nd floor). The door is normally open, but if you have any problems please call the ideaSpace office number on 01223 365123.

To find out more information please visit: http://camjelly.eventbrite.co.uk/

CamJelly is asking you to take part in its survey: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/KD8ZF7X – it should take you less than a minute.

If you’re not sure what CamJelly is, and even if you’re not interested in it, your feedback would be hugely appreciated by this budding Cambridge event.

Please don’t look them up until you’ve completed the survey, but once you have (and if you’re interested) please sign up to their LinkedIn Group.
